By the way, this was my comment at TR intranet site about the logo…
================================================
I can say initially that it’s a good work on choosing the right emblem for Thomson Reuters!
It truly represents and expresses its attributes - Optimism, Humanity, Agility and Clarity
However, the new logo is only as good when it lives up to the expectations of its shareholders, customers and employees.
This means you equate it with $$, sales, revenue, OI and equally important –customers’ satisfaction and employees’ pride working for Thomson Reuters.
Without these, it is just a form without substance.
Goodluck to everyone at TR!

I first heard this song thru a colleague’s ringtone. Well, I’m actually hearing it almost everyday-everytime her gf is calling. Hehe. I think it’s his song for her and I would like to borrow it coz it’s also everything that I wanted to tell to X-X-X. Hehe! I particularly like the lines-"We were drawn from the weeds....just let me hold you while you're falling apart..fall on me, tell me everything you want me to be. Forever with you..." Thanks J. Sebastian! Will miss the ringtone. Goodluck on your Sing expedition!
We were drawn from the weeds
We were brave like soldiers
Falling down under the pale moonlight
You were holding to me
Like a someone broken
And I couldn't tell you but I'm telling you now
Just let me hold you while you're falling apart
Just let me hold you and we'll both fall down
Fall on me
Tell me everything you want me to be
Forever with you forever in me
Ever the same
We would stand in the wind
We were free like water
Flowing down
Under the warmth of the sun
Now it's cold and we're scared
And we've both been shaken
Hey, look at us
Man, this doesn't need to be the end
Just let me hold you while you're falling apart
Just let me hold you and we'll both fall down
Fall on me tell me everything you want me to be
Forever with you
Forever in me
Ever the same
Call on me
I'll be there for you and you'll be there for me
Forever it's you
Forever in me
Ever the same
You may need me there
To carry all your weight
But you're no burden I assure
You tide me over
With a warmth I'll not forget
But I can only give you love
Fall on me tell me everything you want me to be
Forever with you
Forever in me
Ever the same
Call on me
I'll be there for you and you'll be there for me
Forever it's you
Forever in me
Ever the same
Forever with you
Forever in me
Two years ago, I decided to delete my account at Friendster. First I didn’t want it to be the cause of disagreement, suspicion and rift between me and Joy. Second, the traffic is so slow that it takes forever to view one page to another. Some kids just love downloading annoying pop-ups, images and other bling-blings in their pages!
Lastly and most important reason -it has become a prostitution den that you can see very young people selling & advertising their flesh (or even wanting it for free!).
Geez………sick!
Then along came Facebook… I heard over CNN that Microsoft bought 1.6% shares for U$246 million!
Curious why such software bigwig did it, I checked the website and I finally gave in the latest craze.
I love Facebook’s simplicity and openness. Mark Zuckerberg adopted an open platform business model that allows software developers to interact with his amazing creation. This is the reason why we see these applications –Gifts, Hug Me, Superwall etc. Second, I love the pool of people they have – CEOs, CFOs, COOs, MDs, actors, players, students and ordinary mortals like me are there. I was also surprised that Tom Glocer (Thomson-Reuters CEO) and Shaun Paterson are there too. Looks like everybody’s there, noh! Finally, I love Facebook because it connects me to family, friends, and colleagues all over the world. It's particularly helpful when you lost a friend's card, email add or mobile number and seem to cannot find him/her anywhere in the planet.
See the messages I got recently…

Hi Kit - this is Andy...Donkey II from Australia, Michael's friend.
I am coming back to Manila next month for a week. Is the gang still hanging out at the Havana Club every night?
How are you and Joy and Sean and Joey and the other gang members?
Andy!

Cool noh? So give in. Sign up for a Facebook account now.
PS I am not a PR for FB. Hehe
Come to think of it, despite the threats of global warming, war, terrorism, rising oil prices etc, it’s still good living in this time and age – the 21st century. For me, I am happy about this era because I can:
-watch The Ellen De Generes show in any medium – TV, net, or podcast
-do TV series marathon the whole day –Friends, Grey’s, Gossip Girls etc.
Remember the days when one needs to wait for week or so to uncover the next saga?
-blog and read other’s blog
-browse Facebook and play around it
-store my favorite music in iPod
-work wirelessly and oftentimes paperless
-“Google” or “Wiki” anything
-pay bills, book tickets online
-see or know things realtime
-upload, download and share photos
-play with Tiger, Federer or Schumacher online or offline (Wii, PS or Xbox :))
-connect to family and friends instantly –YM, SMS, or even RSS
-have a “Second Life”
……and a whole lot more!!!!
So I wonder -why some people would still have time to bother other people?
Hahaha!
Happy Easter everyone!
I just wrote last week about “leaving some space” to people around us and was shocked to know the story of Lawrence King. Taken aback by the news, I googled, searched thru Wikipedia and found the story.
From Myspace
=======================
NEW YORK, Feb. 14, 2008 – Ten years after Wyoming college student Matthew Shepard was brutally murdered because of his sexual orientation, a 15-year-old gay California student is dead after a student allegedly shot him because of his sexual orientation and gender expression.
Lawrence King, an eighth-grader at E.O. Green Junior High School in Oxnard, was shot Tuesday morning in English class. The 14-year-old attacker, among a group of students known to bully and harass King because he sometimes wore makeup and jewelry and told classmates he was gay, has been charged with murder and a hate crime.
“This incident of senseless violence is truly horrifying, and our hearts go out to the student’s friends, family and the E.O. Green School community,” said Kevin Jennings, Executive Director of GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. “As a nation, we’ve had our heads in the sand for far too long. We need to do everything we can to prevent something like this from happening again.

From Wikipedia
At approximately 8:15 a.m., on February 12, 2008, an eighth grade 15-year-old boy, identified as Lawrence Fobes King (“Larry”) was shot in the head in a computer lab classroom. King was transported to St. John's Regional Medical Center and was listed in serious condition. Examiners had declared King brain dead. King was kept on life support until February 15, 2008, so his organs could be donated. It was reported that King was shot because he was openly gay and sometimes dressed in a "feminine" manner. Prosecutors have discussed charging the alleged shooter, 14-year-old McInerney, with premeditated murder with enhancements for the use of a firearm and commission of a hate crime.
Responses:
“ “I was deeply saddened by the recent death of 15-year-old Lawrence King who was killed at his school in Oxnard, CA. No one should face intimidation or violence, particularly at school, because of their sexual orientation or the way they express their gender identity,". “We must finally enact a federal hate crimes law to ensure that gay, lesbian and transgender Americans are protected against violent, bias-motivated crimes. We must send a unified message that hate-based crime will not be tolerated. ”
— Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in a released statement
“ It was heartbreaking to learn about Lawrence King’s death, and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. King’s senseless death is a tragic example of the corrosive effect that bigotry and fear can have in our society. “It’s also an urgent reminder that we need to do more in our schools to foster tolerance and an acceptance of diversity; that we must enact a federal hate crimes law that protects all LGBT Americans; and that we must recommit ourselves to becoming active and engaged parents, citizens and neighbors, so that bias and bigotry cannot take hold in the first place. We all have a responsibility to help this nation live up to its founding promise of equality for all.”
— Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama in a released statement.
“ Larry was not a second-class citizen. I am not a second-class citizen. It is OK if you're gay. I don't care what people say. I don't care what people think. And I know there are entire groups of people who face discrimination every single day and we're a long way from treating each other equally. All of it is unacceptable. All of it.”
— Ellen DeGeneres on the Ellen DeGeneres Show

Totally affected, I couldn't help myself to pour my emotion. I left a message on the official family memorial site: http://www.rememberlarry.com
Hi Larry, I am Kit from the Philippines and I am deeply saddened by your untimely death.
I cannot imagine why such shameful and ruthless act can be committed to someone like you.
You are such a nice and lovely kid and I am sure your parents are very proud of you.
May you rest in peace and may God forgive the person who had sinned against you.
You have friends all over the world and our prayers go with you!
Laissez faire is French word meaning "leave alone." In Economics, it is a theory from the 18th century that is in opposition to any government intervention in corporate or business affairs. It is sometimes referred to as "let it be/let do/let pass economics." In present times, we can actually apply the same theory in our day-to-day undertakings whether work-related or personal. As a general rule, we don’t have the right to intervene with one’s life especially with regards to personal matters. But what happens when a person says something about your personal life TO others-in defense that “SHE” is being honest or wanting to make herself stand out at the EXPENSE OF OTHERS? Well, that is what we call as gossiping or black propaganda. In this case, that gives us the right to refute the claim and PRESENT THE “FACTS” to others to establish the reliability of the opponent. Is the opponent really clean or just pretender? Is the opponent just a “form” (look for dictionary for other words for form such as replica, mock-up, mold etc. haha!) without substance or the other way around? Is the opponent trying to project an image in order to belong to certain class or just a TOTAL TRASH? Well, let the people be the judge and as I always say caveat emptor! Haha!
*Thanks to Shezzowicked for the illustration. I changed the title to better complement the subject matter.
I watched the other day the movie Evan Almighty. This movie is about a newsman elected as US Congressman (played by Steve Carell) who asked by God (played by Morgan Freeman) to build an ark to save a community from massive flooding in modern day America. It is actually a comedy film that has biblical philosophy since it recounts the story of Noah’s Ark in 21st century. It’s a feel good movie and you won’t be bored in every scene. One thing that really struck me in this movie is how God actually respond to our prayers.God said, if we ask for something say to make us strong, He will not make us strong in a snap but instead,He gives us “OPPORTUNITIES” to be strong. Similarly, if we ask our relationship with our special someone to last and make it stronger,God will not make us heads over heals in-love everyday but instead He gives us opportunities or challenges to make it stronger. Consequently, it’s a perfect timing to be reminded by these things especially now that we cannot stop some evil forces to ruin a beautiful and meaningful relationship. I’ll quote a perfect line from a friend…He said to me, “Kit, “C” is not a part of my life but she is my life. I breathe because of her, will do everything for her and will die for her.”And I say the same thing again to the greatest and most valuable person in my life- “You know that I don’t have anything else to prove in this world but to love you even more. You are not a part of my life but you are my life. I breathe because of you, do everything for you and will die for you. I will not let anyone ruin our love. He told us to be strong and stand against all odds. I love you so much Sweetheart, my best friend, my best love.”
I didn't eat my lunch earlier and decided to just have coffee at Starbucks MB-Ayala with my colleague. One of the topics we discussed was about delegation. I shared with him how my workload has dramatically decreased and improved lately because I'm practicing the art of delegation. Well, I used to observe the “Work All You Can” principle. But then, I realized that this is wrong a practice and I can never share my knowledge and experience with my direct reports. As managers, we have to teach them the skills needed to get the job done and hold them accountable. This sounds simple but it really takes a lot of talent and skill to master this. It’s actually letting them grow, learning to train and trust, and finally letting go.
Since the official annoucement came out in May about the Thomson's acquisition of Reuters, I haven't got the chance to blog about it. I would normally blog significant stuffs happenning in my life...Well, most especially this, but the thing is I really don't know what to say. Maybe because I have mixed emotions about the deal. First, everybody knows that I am a die-hard Thomson fan (I even have Thomson puppies, right? Hehe). I already spent more than half a decade in Thomson (moved around, rose from ranks, worked with fantastic people like Shaun, Peter Gotke & finally built wonderful friendships) and its sad to know that the Board had decided to name Thomson Financial as Reuters or shall I say TF will carry the name Reuters after the EC (European Commission) has approve the integration by Q108 . We were hoping it could be "Thomson-Reuters" or "Reuters-Thomson" just like Time-Warner, JP Morgan-Chase or Equitable-PCIB in local setting but sadly, it will only be Reuters name alone. Btw, to understand more how things will be happening within the Thomson Corporation and its subsidiaries, please check out this article in Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomson_Reuters). On other hand, I'm also thinking, the heck with Thomson name..Reuters is an outstanding brand. So it's cool to be connected with this company/name/brand and basically, when someone asks me where I am working then I don't need to give further explanations...I'll just say its Reuters. Actually, I remember when the Glorietta 2 blast happened, it was Reuters who first broke the news. Not ABS-CBN, GMA or CNN. It was Reuters. So I guess, I'll just sing "Good Riddance Time of Your Life" by Green Day when I bid farewell to the name Thomson Financial soon. Here it goes..
Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth it was worth all the while
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
